Individual vs Firm Partners: How Cloudtheapp Referral Delivery Works

Cloudtheapp's partner program splits into two operating models: independent consultants who refer in their own name, and firms that refer and often implement under a company brand.
The mix-up is expensive. Independents sign a one-page referral agreement and expect a firm portal. Firms expect a personal referral link and then cannot track five consultants. This article explains how referral and delivery actually differ.
Two audiences, two jobs
Individual / independent consultant. You are an FDA regulatory consultant, independent quality leader, validation engineer, or CRO professional working inside client organizations. Clients ask what QMS to use. You recommend, they buy, you earn a referral commission paid to you.
Consulting firm. You run a multi-consultant practice. Several people hit the QMS question every week. The partner entity is the firm. Commission accrues to the firm. Delivery may include implementation, not only a handshake.
Cloudtheapp states a 6-week average deployment for referred clients and 60+ compliance apps on a validated, configurable platform. Independents get a short onboarding. Firms get MSA-level structure.
How individual referral delivery works
- You complete a short onboarding (the public program cites about 30 minutes) and receive a referral path tied to your name.
- You use a demo environment and co-branded materials with the client.
- The client contracts with Cloudtheapp. You do not become the software vendor of record.
- Commission is paid to you under the one-page referral agreement.
- Client support after sale runs through standard Cloudtheapp channels unless you separately contract implementation with the client.
Your value is judgment: which kit, which Fast Track tier, which processes to turn on first. You stay the advisor in the room.
This track fits people who will not staff a delivery bench. If you bill 10 hours to configure CAPA, that is a client SOW you write yourself, not something the individual referral agreement automatically includes.
How firm referral and delivery works
Firms need infrastructure:
- Multi-user portal so every consultant is trackable under one account
- Commission pool and volume tiers as referred client count grows
- Client-isolated sandboxes per engagement
- Product certification for consultants
- Dedicated partner success manager and priority SLA (firm-exclusive)
- Public partner directory listing
- Master Services Agreement instead of a one-pager
Delivery tracks inside the firm program include:
Referral-only firm. Consultants recommend. Cloudtheapp implements (Fast Track or standard). Firm earns on the referred subscription.
Implementation partner. The firm's billable work includes configuration, training, and ongoing QMS management. Cloudtheapp describes certification, SOW templates, and priority support for those client accounts.
Strategic alliance. Joint GTM, co-selling, executive sponsor. This is for large advisory practices, not a two-person LLC.
If your consultants implement, write the RACI explicitly: who configures Dev, who runs CSV, who trains end users, who owns go-live sign-off with the client's quality director. Ambiguity here is how a referral turns into an unpaid implementation.
What does not change between tracks
The client still needs a validated platform, Part 11 audit trails, and a quality system they can defend under QMSR and ISO 13485.
Intelligent assistance on the platform does not replace the partner's professional opinion or the client's approvers.
Demo requests and product questions can still route through cloudtheapp.com/demo when a partner is not in the meeting.
Choosing a track in one page
Choose individual if you invoice in your own name, you will not hire other consultants onto this motion this year, and you want commission paid to you and a simple agreement.
Choose firm if multiple consultants will refer, you need sandboxes per client, you sell implementation hours around the platform, and you want volume tiers and a named partner manager.
A sole practitioner who plans to brand as a firm next year can start individual and convert. Converting later is cleaner than forcing a firm MSA with one user.
Delivery quality bar (both tracks)
Referred clients still go live only when their quality owner signs. Partners should not promise no validation work. The platform validation package is included on Fast Track tiers; app configuration still needs intended-use testing.
Do not promise displacement timelines you cannot control. Promise a scoped first process set and a clone from Dev to Production measured in seconds once configuration is approved.
Conflicts and ethics
If you also sell your own SOP templates, say so. If you sit on the client's quality org chart as Management Representative, document independence for supplier selection. Referral income should appear in your quality agreement disclosures when the client asks.
Practical next step
If you are an independent, prepare specialties (device, pharma, CSV), a sample client profile, and whether you will stay referral-only.
If you are a firm, prepare headcount, practices, whether you need implementation certification, and how you split commission internally.
The partner pages separate See your program for each path for a reason. Pick the operating model you already run, then attach Cloudtheapp as the platform those clients can actually staff.
