From the voice of the customer to a capable design
- Listen with a voice of the customer study, and classify features with the Kano model.
- Define measurable requirements with a CTQ tree, and see where you stand with benchmarking.
- Prioritise technical characteristics in the house of quality.
- Deploy the priorities to parts, processes and controls with QFD or quality by design.
- Predict and verify capability with the DFSS design scorecard.
From design requirements to design controls
In regulated industries, every customer requirement has to be traceable to design inputs, risk controls and verification. Cloudtheapp keeps user needs, design inputs, design reviews, verification records and change control linked in one validated system, with e-signatures and an automatically generated traceability matrix.
Frequently asked questions
How do I turn customer needs into design requirements?
Collect the voice of the customer, group it into needs and translate each need into a measurable requirement. A CTQ tree breaks a need into measurable CTQs; a house of quality relates all needs to technical characteristics and ranks them; quality function deployment carries the priorities down to parts, processes and controls.
What is the difference between QFD and the house of quality?
The house of quality is the first matrix of QFD (product planning), with the roof, competitor ratings and targets. QFD is the full method that cascades the priorities through part deployment, process planning and production planning.
Is quality by design only for pharmaceuticals?
QbD is defined in the ICH guidelines for medicines, but its logic (target profile, critical attributes, risk assessment of parameters, proven ranges and a control strategy) works for any product where process parameters drive quality, including medical devices, food and chemicals.
When should I use design for Six Sigma?
Use DFSS for a new product, service or process, or when an existing design cannot meet its requirements however well it is run. Its design scorecard predicts capability before you build.
Are these tools free?
Yes. Every tool is free, needs no account and keeps your data in your browser. Export to PDF, PNG or Excel, or save a file to continue later.
Keep customer requirements traceable through design
Cloudtheapp links user needs to design inputs, risk, verification and change control in one AI-powered, pre-validated cloud QMS, so every requirement can be traced and every design decision has an audit trail.
